Pacific National Locks Out Its Workers

Rail, Tram and Bus Union Queensland Branch Media Release 3 March 2026

Quotes from RTBU Branch Secretary Peter Allen

Pacific National has taken the extreme step of locking out its workers with less than 4 hours’ notice, directing everyone to stay home, after negotiations failed during bargaining today.

This is in response to workers’ refusal to accept a workplace agreement that does not address the cost-of-living challenges members are facing.

All this will do is hurt Pacific National and its customers who rely on the work of our members each and every day.

After months of stalled negotiations, an overwhelming NO vote to a bad offer, and members exercising lawful protected industrial action, the company’s response has been to shut workers out rather than engage properly at the bargaining table.

Our members will not back down and won’t allow Pacific National to get away with bullying and intimidation of its workforce.

Additionally, our legal team has serious questions about the validity of this action and is preparing an urgent challenge in the Fair Work Commission.

They need to end the games and get back to the bargaining table ASAP.
