Same Job, Same Pay won for labour hire workers at two major warehouses

In a big win for Sigma DC and Drakes DC workers, the SDA has secured equal pay for labour hire workers at the Fair Work Commission.

Prior to this, labour hire workers at these warehouses could be paid significantly less than workers who are directly employed while doing the same job. For too long, employers have been using labour hire to avoid paying workers fairly. These applications seek to change this and make sure that all workers get the pay they deserve. It doesn’t make sense. If you’re doing the same job, why should you be paid any less? This will mean that all labour hire workers at these sites will have to be paid the same pay as direct employees. The SDA has now won Same Job, Same Pay orders at ALM and Metcash Gepps Cross, Drakes DC and Sigma DC. This was possible thanks to the “Same Job, Same Pay” laws by the Federal Labor Government which aim to close the loopholes that deny labour hire workers’ fair pay. Labour hire workers earn thousands less than direct workers  each year and we’re seeking to bring an end to these legal loopholes that have seen labour hire workers to miss out.
